Official ESEA statement for the Premier divisions in North America, Europe, and Australia

As we near the start of Season 24, we are proud to announce the teams for the Premier divisions in North America, Europe, and Australia.

We recognize that our move up and move down process has created issues and uncertainty, while this was not our intention, we will continue to strive to clarify this process. In order to further clarify our process, please read the following.

Guidelines to future Premier seasons:

  • 8 active teams are subject to relegation down to ESEA Main Division each season
  • 2 Guaranteed move ups from ESEA Main Division
  • Additional moves up from ESEA lower divisions (Open through Main)
  • Premier Teams that were retained
  • Relegated Pro League Teams
  • Invitations based on world rankings and other current events
  • ESL CS:GO Major League (EU Only)

Detailed Explanation:
The maximum number of movedowns from ESEA Premier division each season per region is 8 teams. To avoid relegation a team must have a higher regular season standing than the bottom ranked 8 teams.. The number of teams moved down from Premier to the lower divisions will be variable per season and influenced by the number of inactive teams and potential new additions.

Move ups from the lower divisions to Premier will be done based on the remaining number of teams needed to fill the Premier division to a level that ESEA deems competitive. Therefore, the number of teams moved up to Premier from the lower divisions will be variable per season and will be influenced by the number of Premier teams that are marked dead or are moved down. Premier teams will be ordered by their post-season placing and generally, but not guaranteed, 2 teams will be moved up minimum.

ESL Pro League relegates a possible 3 teams. Last place ESL Pro League is directly moved into Premier, which is replaced by 1st place Premier. 2nd to last place Pro league will play 2nd place Premier in a relegation bo3. 3rd to last place Pro League will play 3rd place Premier in a relegation bo3. 1st through 3rd place move ups will always remain fluid due to the relegation process.

In order to ensure the most possible competitive teams, we may also directly invite any teams not currently competing in the Premier division that is either ranked in the top world rankings on ESL and HLTV. The number of ranked competitive teams not competing in Premier will dictate how many teams we will replace from the Premier division and dictate the number of move downs. We will also consider newly formed teams not currently ranked within these standings.

We also allow 2 direct qualifiers into the EU Premier division through competing in ESL seasonal Major Qualifiers.

The Australian Premier division is comprised of invites based on performance from the previous season and existing top OCE teams that are not currently competing in ESEA. The goal in our Australian region is build certainty and ensure the most competitive environment possible by working with teams at all levels.
