shox wins HTC 1v1 invitational

The HTC 1v1 Invitational by PGL has concluded with Richard “shox” Papillon coming out on top over the rest of the competition. The tournament, which was a “first of its kind” featured a plethora of top tier players coupled with some of the most renown broadcast talent in CS:GO.

The first group stage of the tournament already treated us to some exciting upsets such as Julia “juliano” Kiran defeating Casper “cadiaN” Møller 2-1 in group A. Although the Secret fe player raised a few eyebrows following her great play she didn’t end up advancing through her group, allowing Shahzeb “ShahZaM” Khanand Kenny “kennyS” Schrub through to the second group stage.

Group B saw a team kill situation, however, the Natus Vincere duo of Denis “seized” Kostin and Egor “flamie” Vasilyev were able to overcome their opponents to sweep their group for their team.

The tournament also featured legends of the Counter-Strike scene which was best shown in group C where Abdisamad “SpawN” Mohamed was competing. Although the Swede didn’t manage to advance he surely allowed viewers to take a trip down memory lane to remember one of the all-time greats.

In the final group we saw Zainab “zAAz” Turkie in action, however the Secret fe player would also end up being eliminated in place ofDerek “desi” Branchen and Adil “ScreaM” Benrlitom.

The second day saw the remaining eight players drawn into two groups and the upsets were set to continue. Of special note isMichał “MICHU” Müller’s performance as he was able to take first place in group A after defeating Fabien “kioShiMa” Fiey and thenVasilyev in the winner’s match.

This group also saw Richard “shox” Papillon advance as the second place player into the semi-finals. Group B saw Schrub and Kostin advance in what was unsurprisingly the first batch of matches in the tournament to not feature an upset!

These results above set the stage for the first semi-finals out of which Papillon defeated Kostin while Müller overcame Schrub respectively. In the final it was the French player that came out on top to secure the first place finish and $10,000.
